Question Nulon semi synthetic gearbox oil?

    Hi all

Has anyone used Nulon semi synthetic 75/90 " smooth shift" gearbox oil.
It can be used as a replacement for 80w/90 viscosity oils so it should be compatible.

    I usually use penrite.
When cold going into 2nd isn't that smooth. When warm its fine.

    It's an r380 box

    Any thoughts?
    Cheers
    Mick

only answering because no one else has

I think you'll find most oil company sites (incl nulon) recommend ATF

    don't use a 80/90 weight gear oil in a R380

plenty of other alternatives including Penrite light gear oil, Syntrans 75 85

I haven't tried the Nulon offering, but I would prefer a full synthetic over part-synthetic, everything else being equal.

    WOW!

Well I changed the gearbox oil today and put in Castrol Syntrans 75W 85

    What a difference.
Gears are silky smooth now and not notchy and sticky in first and second gears. Recently it was crunching occassionally in second, but this is all gone.

    Couldn't recommend it enough!
    Happy camper

    Hi Noogie,

If you don't mind saying, where did you get the Syntrans From. As asked around here and could not find it. Does it come in 1 Lt bottles or can you a get larger one with enough to do the job. I here it can be pricey but don't mind if it works well.

    Hi Dave

    Call autobarn sunbury.
They had 6 bottles the other day.
They only come in 1 litre bottles and 20 litre drums.
$35 per litre. Not cheap but bloody good stuff.
    Bloody crazy.

Repco sunbury sold out but can get it in for you easy enough.
they guys at Repco Sunbury are really very helpful and they did a great price on fully synthetic 5W 40 penrite engine oil for me also.

Supercheap auto and Bursons also stock it. Bursons sunbury don't have any but they can get it in also.

    Cheers

Thanks mick, I asked around about 6months ago and no one had it. Must be stocked up again so will get back onto it. I hope it stop the gearbox chatter from the solid flywheel.

    Cheers, Dave.

good stuff and definitely reduces noise both when hot and cold. Just be patient for the first 10km on the gear changes.

Syntrans can be bought in 4 litre bottles direct from Castrol.
We have a Castrol agent in Mount Gambier (J.O. Berkefeld) and they sell it in the bigger bottles I'm happy to say.

May pay to see if you have a local Castrol agent near you.

    Rurover,

Do you have a product number for the 4L bottle? What price did you pay?

I had autobarn ring Castrol who said they'd only supply 1 or 20 litres.
