The claim that the 250,000, km are "country Ks" implies that they are relatively easy Ks.
My County had the original clutch in it when it was written off at 500,000Ks
and it was less than half worn.
I know of several other vehicles that have had that sort of "country Ks" and not had anything touched.

A Puma clutch is very different to a county. It's very very common for a pre 2012 model PUMA to have gone through 3-4 clutch friction plates during it's warranty period. The usual failure was the springs broke or rattled. Often you'd start getting a death rattle as you turn it off. My 2009 model had 4 clutches, before the last one which ironically I got in the last week of the warranty, and a few months before I sold it.

Probably not worth reading anything into a failed puma clutch most 2007 have had a few.

As with any defender - go look for rust in the bulkhead and chassis. The PUMA models had no rust preventitive underneath from the factory, so a rusted chassis is possible - especially if it's done beach work. Also the bulk head - under the floor mats, not the ones that are easy to lift, the ones that are on the more angled parts of the firewall, but of a PITA to lift - but you might find some serious rust there.

At 250,000 you'll probably hit a round of maintenance, such as radiator, viscous fan, perhaps swivel housings/bearings etc. But that's just normal maintenance.


For 22k it would be a bargain (as long as it's not rusted) - and I'd buy it in an instant if I had the cash... ;-)

I would not think twice about the K's,big K's mean lots of driving at operating temps which is better than small stop start driving heating up and down ten times a day.The clutch problem was faulty springs,they have been updated. Pat

I would find it pretty hard to shell out 22 big ones on a vehicle that has done over 200k. If every component that was due to be changed at the particular service had been done then it would look a little more attractive, still it is a lot of money fora well used vehicle.

For anyone reading in 2015, just had my Puma clutch and slave cylinder changed at 23,000 for clunking and leak but under warranty so quickly sorted but not a good omen for the future.

What is the body, interior, & underbody like on this vehicle?
