    Tow Bar

    Hey all,

Just shopping around for a tow bar for my new Defender 110, and was hoping you guys could steer me in the right direction.

Firstly, what is the Land Rover part number for the 110 tow bar kit? Is it just RAA008? If so, does this kit come with everything required, including ECU, etc? Does anyone know which website is best to order this from, as the ones I have looked at charge ridiculous amounts for shipping.

Also, I have seen that the Haymen Reese 2490R suits the 110, but where can one order this, apart from ARB themselves who quoted me $800, which I think is a bit much.

Lastly, has anyone used a website like Home | Towbars Australia to get a towkit?

    Regards

I got a toe bar fitted immediately, then when I put in a long range tank later found that they were not compatible. I had to then get a new toe bar. That may be a consideration for you.

Yeh that's true, what one did you get installed to suit the tank and what you pay?

Been getting quotes for a Hayman Reece kit, the average price I am getting is $880.
However, I received one quote which was $607 for the Hayman Reece 02490R bar kit only. Then $210 for the Hayman Reece universal ECU and wiring....
    How does that sound?

What ECU is used in the LR Dealer towbar kit?
    Is it this:
    - ‘N’ Type Towing Electrics - LR005920

Is an ECU even required, or is it just the wiring? Because I found this N type kit for $50 online...Better than $200 from Hayman Reece....?

Im sorry but I have absolutely no idea. I think I got it in 2009?
I had a quick look at the back and there is a little sticker with the towing weight listed and it says 'trailboss'. As for cost I have no idea. I think the tank was a lone ranger about 127L from memory. I also have the front runner rear quarter tank.
Sorry I cant be more accurate.

There's your option "c" solution. If you don't want a long range tank ring around ARB stores, and any others that supply the tank as they may have LR original tow bars lying around or at least contacts for the owners. Then all you need is the electrical parts.
It has been a long term issue that the factory towbar blocks a 127l long range tank, so a lot of long term or second owners doing this mod end up paying for a new Reece towbar.

Can anyone confirm that the RAA608 will fit the 110?
Reason is, speaking to the online support on brit-car.co.uk - they seem to think its for older Defenders, and in fact, they dont even know what hitch towbar would suit...But they are priced favourably...

Here is the link they gave me to the kit.
    They say #2 is RAA608, #1 is RAA607, and #3 is RAA621...

    Hi mate,

My 2014 110 wagon is fitted with a Hayman Reece tow bar. The part number stamped on the bar is R2490.

It was supplied and fitted by ARB (their corresponding part number is T02490R).

I got the bar itself for $445 and the ECU kit for $163.

Fitting was another $180, so you could save yourself some decent coin by fitting it yourself.

I have no idea about fitment compatibility with a long range tank.

    Cheers,
    Nige

I purchased our Hayman Reece bar for $455, from Arrow Towbars at Burpengary. Fitted myself. I didn't require any wiring, as there was wiring already in place for the previous dodgy towbar.

Ours is a TD5, and we have the Long Ranger 127l extended fuel tank.

Hi Specwarop or anyone else that wants an original tow bar.
I went looking in the garage last night and what did I find but my first tow bar. I don't know if it is appropriate to post this here (so sorry if this is wrong) but you can send me a private message if that's the forum protocol. I live near Hornsby, Sydney.

    Cheers Peter
