    Cool Terrafirma pro sport shock Failure

    Hi all

    I was driving the border track along sth Aust border over the long weekend and on the first day the driver side rear shocker failed.

    The bottom pin which locates the shock into the mount snapped clean off the shocker.

    I finished the drive but it got pretty bouncy so had to take it slow. Highway driving wasn't really an issue but I got her home ok.

    It was just out of warranty but it was still replaced free.

    New one is on but I'm a little concerned about reliability over corrugations and harder touring, even though I don't think we were doing anything that harsh.

    Might take a spare next time and consider replacing them and keeping them as spares.

    Have to say I had good dealings with terra with shock replacement too...

    I had a shock fail off road, although shock was out of warranty; the actual shock had not done many Ks at all as car was just a weekender..

    never had an issue with them again and they have taken a bit of a hammering. IfI recall there was an issue with very early shock design when they were first released but they were very quickly rectified.
    Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

    I'm not really sure what that track is like but if you are doing any remote touring it's a good idea to take at least one spare front and one rear shock anyway (I carry all four) as it's not something you want to drive too far without due to the stress it puts on other parts of the car..

    If you tighten up the bottom pin to tight or put the washer on up-side-down, flex the rear cause the pin to stress and snap. The rubbers need to provide some "give" to the pin and the metal retaining ring doesn't help.

    Not saying this is what happened to yours but good to be aware of it.

    The metal retaining ring in the disco axle we were actually advised to remove by terra themselves as it pinches the rubber bush and can cause premature failure

    A mate of ours was driving his 110 on a joint trip to Khutse Game Park here and lost a rear shock. So he parked it with the shockless wheel up on a mound, wrapped a good length of nylon rope around the axle and chassis to keep the axle tethered, and continued the journey (it was only a long week-end, so no dramas).

    Which way do you consider upside down for the washers? Concave on or away from the bush?

    Hi guys, just like too add, I had 2 front terra shocks fail on the fairly tame gunbarrel hwy. they were brand new before the trip. They were replaced under warranty!
