Perth Smash Repairs - Defender 110

Im in urgent need of a recommended Perth smash repairs who forum members can recommend for repairs on Defender 110's.

I had a side impact accident with a Wrangler today which included damage to the driver's side small rear panel (near passenger door), drivers rear wheel flare, drivers rear passenger door, drivers door, step up, floor panel.

One of the most concerning things is that when I now shut the drivers door its rubbing up against the cross member.

Im insured with RAC and I dont think there is much chance but Im supposed to be going to Coral Bay in 2 weeks time.

Look forward to some direction from you guys.

A bit more of a closer inspection also reveals the following:

    • Floorwell lifted in rear passenger side. Where the steps connect onto the floor must have pushed it up when impacted.
    • Pillar between front and rear seat is bent

    Hi there Spencer,

When mine were damaged in the hail storm a couple of years ago it went to Neerabub Smash Repairs. New roof, wing tops, bonnet and the rest of the dents on the doors and body also repaired. Everything but rage rear end were resprayed. They did a great job. Does not matter where you end up going, your timing sucks for a lack of a better word . Body parts for defenders are not that readily available, I had to wait 6-8 weeks for spares and then another 2 for repairs.

Hope you get yours sorted in time for your trip.

    Cheers, Jurgens.

That is an easy repair for any panelbeater as it is simply unbolting and drilling rivets, then replacing the offending items.

Just make sure to point out all the damaged bits and get the insurer and the panelbeater to replace all of them rather than repair + bog.

The pillar you refer to is the B pillar. It is one piece with a channel that runs from the firewall to the C pillar.

I have found T & J's in Balcatta to be pretty good. Not the cheapest but do a good job.

Given the damage to the step I suspect you will have some chassis damage too. Luckily that's still easy to fix if you get the right panel shop. The trick is to find someone experienced in the way of the Defender - and that's quite tough. Best is to talk to your dealer. There are very few certified Land Rover panel shops, you want to pick one of those as it will preserve your warranty. (And they are often reasonably OK at fixing Defenders.) Many common panel shops are not experienced with Defenders and will not be able to fix it with the amount of money the insurance will pay for.

I had a similar accident on a 4 week old Defender, and have been through the process. The panel shop I picked was very good. It took nearly 6 weeks whilst they waited on parts from the UK, but I had a reasonable hire car for this period.

Bilbo, who did you use if you dont mind me asking?

Im insured with RAC so want to get the job done right. I will contact Barbagellos tomorrow.

As to how it happened, well lets just say it only happened yesterday so police report only completed and under inquiry. The impact was semi side impact meaning both cars travelling in same direction but a change of lanes collision with a monster Jeep Wrangler 2" lift with ARB bullbar so not pretty outcome for anyone.
