    LR Genuine vs Safari Snorkel

    Hey Guys,

Besides cost, is there any differences between the Land Rover Genuine Snorkel, and the Safari Snorkel?
Is one better for airflow, performance, etc?

    Regards

The Genuine LR one is not a snorkle it is supplied and sold as a raised air intake

This unit is not designed to go through water, if you want a real snorkle buy aftermarket

How is it different than a snorkel? I am assuming its all sealed except for the bit that goes through the body - like the Safari?

I don't know what vehicle you have Specwarop but I have a 2001 130 Defender fitted with a Land Rover Snorkel that has both the Land Rover and Safari logo's on the side.

The raised air intake used by Land Rover was made by Mantec. As far as I know the Safari snorkel is made of composite material, whereas the Mantec one basically is a steel pipe with some plastic tubing from the inside of the wing to the air filter housing. Also, the Safari has the elbow on top, optionally installed with mouth facing either towards the front or the rear. The Mantec has the cyclone top.
I cannot comment on the other properties or characteristics of them, though even if there are differences on paper, I very much doubt you will experience any differences in practice, i.e. daily driving in a Defender.

At least for the PUMA Defenders-

Both the Safari and LR(Mantec) snorkel/RAI joint on to the outside of the guard. Neither come with new ducting to the air box.

"Nugget" on this forum, manufactures a quality kit that replaces the leaky factory ducting with a water sealed option.

Nuggets kit also eliminates the twist and turns and varying diameters of the factory ducting with a nice constant 90mm tube.

On a D2 as a comparison, they are the same, LR unit just has the LR and safari logo. Both pass through the guard, fitting into the inlet in the inner guard. Both still have the issue of the cotton flexible joint between the inner guard (engine bay side) and the airbox. Which is overcome by siliconing it up.

Was the mantec unit ever offered in Au by LR as a factory option?

If the LR unit doesn't join the airbox, how is even a raised air inlet? Or am i reading "Neither comes with ducting to the airbox" incorrectly?
