    Low water alarm

G'day guys my 99 td5 defender low water alarm has started to go on and off , not all the time been doing it last couple of times I drove it ( not a daily driver ) . Checked level was all good oil normal , any ideas ? Is the sensor faulty ? Or something else ?

Mine did the same recently and then eventually came on permanently. Happened over about a month or so of being driven every few days or so on short trips.

Turned out I had a small leak from the heater matrix (only 18mths old). I think it was leaking as it cooled and creating an airlock in the matrix.

Id take the radiator plug out and check the level. If its down then top it up and start the hunt for a leak...

Check for corrosion on terminals too, mine was doing the same, it was just dirty / corroded connector.

Not sure of what type of sensor you have but we have a truck that has a single sensor into the hader tank. It probably needs to be changed every 3 or 4 years. Taking it out and cleaning it with a wire wheel can sometimes fix it for a while. Make sure you connectors are clean.

I've also had the sketchy terminals.

Also, I'm on rainwater so it goes off if the coolant is too dilute
