Ouch. But the ding does add character...

Maybe skip the chequer plate and wait until you can put the sliders in.

Saves paying twice to change the same part of your truck.

PS: How / what did you hit it on? That's an interesting spot to collect a ding.

I reckon you should do nothing until it comes time to move it on.

Well.... I was parking out near hill end on a very steep piece of mountain, and I put the front wheel up against a triangular rock with the front face almost vertical, about two feet high figuring that there is no way it would roll away.

Then when I got back into the truck I stuck it in gear and let out the clutch. Be damned if the thing didn't climb straight up it in less than a second, over the top and dropped down the other side. It came off slightly off centre and just caught the sill.

Basically I significantly underestimated the 90's ability to climb straight up....

Re moving it on.... I don't plan to. This was a long term commitment. Short of major mechanical problems (a year in and so far so good) or a crash I plan on being buried in it.

Rock sliders do replace the sill. If they don't they are side steps.

Rock sliders probably wont cost much more than the cost of a replacement, respray followed by another ding.

The cheap option is checker plate.

That looks like a good spot to view the stars…………..What brand /type /size telescope do you have ?

Its a 10inch orion goto dobsonian. Its actually my daughters scope. Beautiful clear skies... I like the deep sky objects, but she prefer to stay within the solar system and view jupiter, saturn and especially the moon.
