[edit] forgot to mention it uses a transfer pump that has never given an ounce of trouble in over ten years, and the level sender has never been able to work with the OE gauge !

One thing to keep in mind would be the "sloshing" of a less than full or more than empty tank in the cabin area. I will be going for mulgos sill tanks for $/Litre and because as a tourer they shouldn't interfere too much. Am considering doing something with the main tank, as I don't like the idea of the plastic tank, even less so with its close fitting guard - I can see abrasion becoming a possible issue.

Somebody makes one to fit across the front of the tub if you have a 130 hcpu...I forget capacity or manufacturer, sorry.

I have a Long Ranger 125Lt , It gives me at least 1000km , and is neat and simple . Depends how much range you need .

I have a long ranger 120L replacement tank in the back and 2 LRA sill tanks (driver 70L , Passenger 60L - both filling off 1 point on the drivers side) for a total of 250 L. (we have managed the entire Canning without refilling.......)
Because I have a 300TDI, I have been able to completely isolate my tanks (no transfer pumps...) I have a 3 position switch on the dash that operates a couple of pollak valves under the centre console to change between tanks. If the valves die, I can easily manually change the plumbing from one tank to the other.......
3 seperate fuel gauges in the mud pod on the dash keeps tabs on how full.

This is the only solution to my non-reading OE gauge when switched to the sub tank, use a VDO gauge that suits the sender !

Lou, do you want any photos to get an idea of how low, etc. the sill tank hangs ?

Mine has the Long Ranger 120 L or whatever it is, also a RV Poly 70L under tray tank (though I can't get more than 66L in there). It was enough to get from Kunawarritji to Leonora without using any of the 4 jerries I had on the back.

I have an 1800x1800 alloy tray
sitting between the rails of the tray is an aluminium tank that holds 75L with the filler and breather between cab and tray.
It has its own supply to a second water separator.
The primary tank and axillary tank lines each run from their respective water separator to a "Pollack" valve then on to the engine

All up cost was about $500 for the tank (custom made in Cairns to my dimensions) and about $150 for the Pollack and plumbing ( I pilfered the fuel sender, separator and filler neck from a wrecked disco I had.)
