    TD5 vibration

G'day gang. Hope everyone is having a good Monday.

I have a 2000 130 td5, I noticed on the way to work this morn that she has developed a bit of a vibration (not shaking to bits). This only happens above 2000rpm when she is under load. You cant feel it in the steering and there are no unusual noises. I have yet to cast an eye over it for I've got to keep the boss happy. But there are ideas flying round everywhere at work from engine mounts to throw out bearings.

Has anyone had this issue/or have any ideas as to what it is?

    Thanks guys

    Maybe the handbrake shoes vibrating?
Pull the handbrake on a bit while it is making the noise andsee if it changes.

    Couple of thoughts -
IS it the vibration related to engine RPM or KMH related - for example does it vibrate at the same RPM regardless of gear - or at the same KMH regardless of gear - that will help to work out if the issue is pre or post gearbox. IF it's engine rpm related then it's probably something in the clutch forwards. IF it's road speed related then it's probably something in the clutch backwards.

IF RPM related - could be oil in the wiring harness causing a misfire of one or more injectors at certain RPM's. (IS there an oil pool around the ECU plugs under your seat)

Or perhaps a disintegrating dual mass flywheel (How many k's?)

Or perhaps a failed Harmonic balancer (How many k's?, and is it rattling differently with the A/C on?)

Engine mounts make a harsh vibration when they have failed - One way to test for grossly failed engine mounts is to park on a steepish hill with your foot on the brake at idle. Note the vibration levels, then put the handbrake on and let go of the brake, this will put load on the drivetrain. You may find now that it vibrates more or less. Try the same in reverse, does it change. IF the mounts are all good you should get little to no change in idle vibration.

    Thanks for the help guys.

As for the hand brake I only just pulled the drum apart on the weekend to replace the bolts holding the front uni on. So it should be good.

Next to the harmonic balancer. Because it only happens under load I would say that this is fine. One would think that even in neutral after applying a fews revs this would show up. The injector harness has no oil and it is not a miss fire issue. Beside I replaced it only 2 months ago.

I'm leaning more towards transfer case/gearbox mounts. I've taken today off to get it sorted and replace trailing arm bushes, so hopefully it is only simple.

    Thanks again guys
    Jared
