SupporterI am looking at replacing a friend's rear axles and flanges on a 300 tdi 98 model. What are the best axles and flanges to use as replacements?

support Australian made where you can. Hi-tough are every bit as good as Ashcfort.
Definitely go some form of heavy duty (probably around $700) - my first replacement set of standard $120 jobs started wearing out after about 20,000 kms which was mainly road driving - standards are a waste of money - cheap but you'll be replacing them quickly especially if doing any off road work
My Ashcroft's have been in for about 50,000 K's now (1/2 shafts front & rear + CV's) seen lots of off road, runs lockers on both ends with 33's (285/75x16 MTZ) and they havnt missed a beat.
Had them out about 8,000k's ago and they all look brand new, no wear to be seen
