    Defender Puma Engine Oil options

    Hi

I know it's been done to death, but what is the best oil for my 2008 puma, a link to a previous thread with the list would suffice.

I thought a previous thread said that that Penrite euro stuff was no good for the puma.

    Cheers

Ive been using Total Quartz 9000 future NFC 5W30

Meets all the specs for non DPF LR and its heaps cheaper than the Castrol Magnetec or Edge Proff with same spec. There is a distributor in Perth SOR

I'm also same as Grappler, Total Quartz 9000 future NFC 5W30 is the oil I currently use. Top stuff.
When the previous owner had the Puma serviced at the dealers they initially used the Castrol Magnetec A1 5W-30, they then changed to Castrol Edge Professional. I have found both hard to come by, the Castrol supplier here in Ballarat, Vic, can only supply it in 200ltr drums.
The engine seems to run better on the Total stuff, plus it's easier to get hold of.

I am assuming the same oil should be used in A 2014 2.2L Defender?

Also Grappler, who is your supplier SOR?

Lastly, how does one check if a DPF is fitted?

    Golden West Lubricants at Maddington

I think there are a few posts on DPF or not, to do with VIN letter codes??

A basic way is to see if a DPF icon comes up on dash display during the system check on startup. Another is to see if there are electrical leads attached to the cat converter thingy . If not there (in both methods), you dont have a DPF and v.v.

Drain plug to 23 Nm (17 lb.ft), tighten the oil filter cover to 35 Nm (26 lb.ft).
Everything is pretty straight forward. Loosen the oil filter cover 3 turns and allow the engine oil to drain. Remove and discard the oil filter cover O-ring seal. Install a new drain plug. Install a new oil filter cover O-ring seal.
Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine oil. I also put fresh engine oil in the filter cover housing before refitting.

Have a look at this, different spec for 2.2l than 2.4l Puma.

    Valvoline Australia - NetLube

Penrite also have different spec for the two Puma engines.
