    stalling on hill starts 300tdi

I've been scouring the forum and rave for answers.
My 96 300tdi stalls or has no power when attempting hill starts. I sm not sure if it is starving of air ir fuel. I have changed the air filter, fuel filter, drained rear fuel filter, changed manifold gasket and adjusted valve clearance.
I am thinking of changing fuel lift pump.
I have also been reading about cleaning the iac valve. Is this in the ear? If so I think I t been blocked by previous owner.

Any answers or threads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply tonic. I forgot to add I checked all the intercooler hoses for splits and if it was de laminating and also the intercooler was cleaned when the water pump was replaced a month ago.

Mine was hopeless with loads on hill starts till I got the pump altered by a mechanic who knows these vehicles. He said it had never been set properly.

Water trap / sedimenter can block and is often ignored at servicing

I might just be able to drop down over a weekend in the near future to help sort this out, drop me a PM if you're interested.

My disco would do the same, particularly when cold.
Became quite embarrassing on one particular trip into the Vic high country with Nissota driving mates
Turned out to be the lift pump.

Check the fuel return pipes. If they're porous that can have very significant effects on running and starting. Have a good sniff around. Any smell of diesel can be a clue.
