    puma 110 uhf install

    quick question.

Have a standard sized uhf unit given to me to replace the old gme..

Looking where to install it, thinking about removing the pass side dash top panel (where the afftermarket glovebox goes) and having a metal one fabbed up, and having the uhf face out of that (horizontal)

Is this possible? has anyone done this previously?

I dont particularly like putting the UHF overhead but may have to if I cant find something Im happy with otherwise.

So, puma owners show me yours.... (uhf install / location I mean!!)

You mean 'standard' as in a 1 DIN size UHF?
The modern ones could be mounted in an ex box, under the seat, or just about anywhere, and have the remote face stick out where needed.
'Hiding' a 1 DIN size UHF would be a feat though... especially if you are looking for discreet.

No pics, but I've got a 1/4 DIN size GME mounted to the front air duct section, in front of the gear shifter. Got a remote speaker tek screwed to the front of the cubby box. Works well.

I did likewise. I screwed the mic clip on the slopped face on the front of the cubby box. Works for me. The voices from the UHF is not directly competing with the speakers of the stereo (i.e. it's not coming from the same sound plain) which makes it marginally easier to differentiate.

The down side is its is exposed to knocks from stuff/people in the back seat.

Has anybody put the main unit of a remote UHF set in an exbox or similar. I'm just wondering if it would get too hot in there?

I've got an Icom 440N to fit, just sorting out a spot for the main unit.

I have an Icom 440 in the Exbox (hand set on dash) and an Icom 400 in a Outback Consoles roof console.
