Over the years my 1985 110 County has broken 3 or 4 wheel studs. They are very easy to replace. new ones available from 4WD's in Blackburn, Melbourne. With new nuts and postage about $9 or $10 a set. probably just old age and hard yakka, you can see the gradual crystalization of the stud at the break. (I've done 300k on bush roads)

Interesting - my 1986 County is approaching 600,000km, a lot of it on bush roads - and has all the original studs. I suggest that broken studs reflect primarily overtightening by monkeys at tyre suppliers (which you may never know about if they realise it and tension them correctly later!) rather than actual service.

The Landrover has larger studs and a larger PCD than almost all comparable vehicles, so that each stud is less stressed - but this provides no protection from rattleguns.
