Most likely it is something underneath - like a loose gearbox mount.

Interesting to see your post, as I have started to get a similar sound in mine (2013 110)

For me its with with low speed gear changes, and over minor bumps. Does not happen at higher speed changes (which could just mean I need to be smoother at low speed.....)

I can replicate it by vigorously wiggling the plastic guide the seatbelt runs through by my right ear. Wasn't sure whether that was coincidence

Like you I cannot replicate via the wiring plug

If the gear box mounts were loose wouldn't this be visible through the stick rocking forward when braking but not shifting?

Do the doors close properly?,it could be the lock fastening plate coming loose. Pat

I have found the Defender transfers clunks and rattles in odd ways at times. Noises that seem to emanate from the b-pillar at about seat height have been fixed by tightening a loose bracket on the roof rack.

The source of the noise might not be located where you think the sound is coming from, which all adds to the adventure that owning a Defender brings.

Bet it's the door catches. If you drive with the door on the first catch ie not fully closed does it stop?

Easy to fix - Get a hex drive socket - loosen the catch bolts and move it slightly up or down. Then make sure the door closes.

I bet your dealer will never hear the noise when then test drive it.. They are very deaf.

Not to mention screws that magically appear on the floor.

I am up to 3 so far, but as they are all small (non-structural ones) I'm not worried.

Had a noise in my B pillar. (MY2013 DC)

It was the door catch. Easy to check. The fixed portion (attached to the B pillar) has a rotating plastic part. Likely worn. When the tapping noise bugs you, stop, open the door, rotate the plastic bit 1/4 turn and shut the door. Drive on and note if the noise stopped for a while.

If so - adjust the whole fitting a little up/down. Repeat 47 times til you get the right spot, then no more noises.

I have this exact issue in my 3 month old 110. I had it in at the dealer today and they fixed it. Replaced the window regulator. 100m down the road, knocking is still there!!!!!
