    Defender wiring - warranty issue?

I know Land Rover's don't have the best reputation for electrics but could this be the reason.

I was looking at the wiring on my 5 month old Defender on the weekend and noticed the following:

We're booked in next week for the dealer to have a look at it

Is this a common problem and what was the resolution? New wiring or taped over?

Unless I'm mistaken that's the loom under the driver's seat marked "chassis something-or-other".

The main wiring under the driver's seat.

Sure is. I gather when they were fitting the loom the wire was pulled through tight spaces and this is the consequence.

Imagine replacing the main loom imagine the additional things they can dislocate. If there was no exposed copper and the gouges not too deep I would be tempted to wrap the whole thing in silicone tape.

But in a new vehicle you deserve a certain standard of manufacturing.

Oops bare wire, replacement job by. Better check mine.
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

It doesn't show clearly in the pictures but unfortunately the copper is exposed on a few of the wires. My concern now is the state of the rest of the loom.

After the first visit the wiring was taped up. We have pursued the matter and the issue has now been escalated to Land Rover but we have been told to not expect them to fix it.

    We shall wait and see.
