Question What is this on the Defender Guard?

Sorry for not knowing, but I've seen this on a few Defender LHS Guards now and it's got me curious as to what this black piece (Vent ??) is mounted on the LHS guard and what is its purpose ?

Also help to keep water, mud and crap out of your heater box and water off your winch contactor (in my case).

As others have mentioned the snow/leaf cowl... Looks like that one has an antenna mounted to the top of the cowl (hard to see from the pic).

Thanks for that.... That explains it...... It must not be too much of a problem here in Aus as I don't see many fitted to Defenders that I've seen at least

While now commonly sold as a plastic Snow Guard, the original steel item was designed for UK Military armoured Landrovers as a cover to prevent petrol bombs in riots and public unrest situations from allowing fuels and vapours/smoke from being drawn into the ventilation inlet. Wouldn't be a good idea in a closed up vehicle to pop open a window for a breath of fresh air with rocks and fence pickets flying about the local G20 protest!

Should be available from Justin Burton at LandyBitz (see Home) but I bought mine on eBay (about $75 delivered from the UK) (search: Defender snow cowl). Metal ones are stronger but the plastic ones will deform, if impacted, without damaging you mud guard. I put mine on when I found the drain hole in the air intake blocked up with mud, small leaves and insects. If you order one, be mindful that there are left and right hand versions.

    Cheers
