Troubles? Yes we had a few? But Then again, too few to mention.... but i will for this thread
1/- poor fuel clogs the fuel filter regularly and quickly.
2/ Blew an air con hose- probably the single worst thing that can happen at this time of the year in that place. It didnt leak dust until then. leaked a bit after that though.
3/ the feed wire off the circuit breaker came loose cancelling out the lights and a few other things.
4/....and that was it.
Given it was 3756 km up and about the same back which was all highway, it did 10500 km on constant really bad corrugations, washouts and dirt tracks with a 650 litre fuel tank and tools and guff on the back constantly returning an average of 10 km litre over all terrains. Not even a puncture which was excellent considering i had 8 ply Dunlop Road Grippers (Yes the Toyota tyres in 7.50 16's).
In comparison we had fuel troubles'(Everything), 2 blown diffs (2500 km old Navara, 15000 km V8 Cruiser), a set of springs (V8 Cruiser front and rear), a front end (V8 Cruiser), a transfer case (V8 Cruiser), a gearbox (V8 Cruiser), an engine (Yep, a v8) and countless big tough tyres blow on various other makes. There were 3 Cruisers. So i'd say chin up, problems abound in every make, but none of them are as much fun to drive as a Defender..... and the true believers even wave at you to show how happy they are. They have been doing it for the 30 years I've had Landrovers, and i hope it keeps on going. Oh, and when she hit about 160000, it seemed to get a new lease on life and go even better. By the way, I've had the truck since it was 65000 km old and have never had any issues with the diffs. I don't know what it did before that, but they look original. I hope the problems people are having get sorted because the Defender's far too good to be angry at. Cheers
