I saw an ad. for a Defender cruise control in the latest issue of Land Rover Monthly. Would it be a specific unit for Defenders or just a generic unit, I wonder?

I just fitted the autosrada kit to mine - works great and very easy to fit.

    Hi Turtle,

Any over speed issues on a long down hill?

Not sure of the make and model, but some people reported nice steady control on power, but an inability to "throttle back" on down hills.

    Cheers,

    Lou

No aftermarket unit will control the ABS or Gearbox to slow on steep downhill.

What I can tell you though is the 2.2 decelerates quite quickly on throttle removal.

We had no real issues on the run from Melbourne to Adelaide.

Without the cruise on we only picked speed coming through the Heysen tunnel - very steep decline.

I was concerned about this when I bought it, but it holds downhill speed very well. Downside of the gateway bridge in Brisbane is a pretty good test and here it doesn't pick up speed at all. Although this function is a lot to do with the specific engine, the sensitivity programming on the unit when it first changes from load to no load is important in how smooth it transitions and they seem to have this spot on. (For a 130 anyway)

What sort of price do these go for?
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
