The Tardis is out of action

    Hi all
I put the Tardis in for its 48km service at 45km and told them there was a noise coming from what i thought was the air cond compressor when the idle up kicked in. They checked it out and called me to tell me that it was actually the output shaft that was noisy and needs to be lubricated. I think there was a service bulletin about it. They did as much but the noise is still there so now they are replacing the gearbox. Wont know till Monday where and when they can source a gearbox/ transfer case from.
    Cheers Ian

Well, they haven't found a gearbox yet, hopefully i should get an answer tomorrow. If i don't get it back before Christmas, they might just have to supply me with a D4 for the Christmas 4wd club trip we are going too

You would have thought Land Rover Australia , would carry a few gearboxes , for problems such as yours . Makes me wonder once the last Defender is sold if they will carry any spares ? Or will they leave It to the after market boy's ? Jim ..

They found one in victoria and had it shipped up, fitted but noise is still there but not as pronounced. They have decided to pull it out again and now check flywheel and pressure plate , i reckon it might be a spring in the pressure plate. Thought it would have been checked while box was out to be honest, oh well, wait n see what will happen monday

After they replaced the gearbox and the noise was still half there, it was pulled out again. They told me the flywheel might be out of balance, i said pressure plate springs will be loose, they ended up replacing the whole clutch kit assembly, noise now gone, a lot quiter (even has people commenting how quite) to drive, gear changes are smoother, totally different car to drive now. Told me rear brakes need replacing soon, quoted me $800 to do it😄😄😄. Local brake guy next to work $300. Told dealer , ill get back to him after New Years. Suppose they want to recoup some dollars from gearbox and the lost money from having one of there mechanics tied up pulling the gearbox out 3 times,i would have thought that the clutch etc would have been check whilst gearbox was out being replaced. Oh well, got it back and all is good now.
