    Puma voltage to injectors

    Hi all,

Doing some non start troubleshooting on my 2009 Puma.

Removed the plug to injector. One pin should carry a continuous positive
voltage while the other pin is ecm signal.

I am getting a 1.5 volt reading on the positive line when grounded to frame ground. Is this the correct voltage or should it be 12 volts?

    Any help will be appreciated.

Are you using a multimeter or an oscilloscope?

The way I understand how they work is that they receive a very short square wave voltage applied only for a few milliseconds.

    Mike.

Edit; do you have an OBD code reader or have access to one?
It may have a P0200 fault showing?

I do have a nanocom. There are no errors. I am using a DMM.
Reading in forums that 12 volts is for most other cars; but have 2 2009 pumas and both have 1.5 volts. Well both aren't starting too. But one
the injectors are injecting because there is smoke in exhaust.

Try hooking a LED noid light up to the individual injector wires and test and see if ALL injector wire looms are firing.

My injectors are showing roughly battery voltage when testing to ground.

I would guess that you have a short somewhere

I hope that finding and fixing a short fixes your problems,
    But if it doesn't...
A couple of questions for you....

You say non starting in your first post, but in your last post you say there is smoke in the exhaust....so,

It's not something so simple as..... No fuel in the tank?

Or a new fuel filter causing air blockages?

Or no (or not enough) fuel delivery to the injectors?

How long does it crank for? A few seconds or until you switch the key off?

    Is it an immobiliser issue?

Have you had the injectors out? If so is there air in the lines on some/most of the injectors?

Are you able to get the correct stuff to do a fuel system relearn?

Which Monrovia are you in? California or Liberia?

    Mike.

    Mike,
I'm in Monrovia, Liberia. Forgot about the one in California. I was thee many years ago. Here in Liberia there is no LR Dealer now.

Well back to my Pumas. Both have a non start issue. Both had immobilizer
problems which have now been settled using ids/sdd. Both engines crank fine but just wouldn't start.

Today rechecked the voltage to the positive line on the injector, with grounding on frame and then directly to the negative battery terminal. I got the same 1.5 volts on both vehicles. However without a noid light, which I just cannot pickup in an auto parts store here, I pulled the injectors out, hooked them up and cranked the engine.

On one vehicle I got all four injectors firing out of engine. Success somewhat. Placed injectors back in engine, cranked and engine still wouldn't turn over. Placed some oil on top of pistons through intake cranked and engine actually ran for about 20 seconds then died. I believe I have compression issues with stuck piston rings...Progress

The second vehicle not so much success. Took out injectors and found out only getting pulse, occasionally to number 1 injector position. Exchanged injectors from 2,3 and 4 and all fire occasionally in 1 position Nothing firing at 2,3, and 4 positions. I plan on figuring out how to reflash the ecm on this vehicle with ids/sdd.

I too feel the 1.5 volts is low, but in the case of the first vehicle the injectors are firing. Can both vehicles have shorts?

Oh and when I said smoke out of exhaust I meant when cranking, which indicated fuel getting to chamber as in the case of the first vehicle. The second vehicle because no pulse, not injection so when cranking the is just a cool breeze out of exhaust.

Hope not too long but appreciate your advise. As well as any other members.

As a follow up to my issue. I have been able to start one of the pumas. The one with the nozzles spraying but not starting.....Found out why it was sold. The timing was completely wrong. Timed the engine and fired right up. Beginning to continue on puma number 2.

I have a problemi with Defender Puma 2.4 tdci.
the vehicle turns the starter motor normally but does not start. (radio controls work correctly).
I have no errors in diagnosis.
if I check the rail pressure values on the parameters it seems ok (I see it rise up to 400 bar in a few seconds).
the injectors are not piloted and I have 1.5 Volts on both of their terminals.
I read that you had situations similar to mine. I need help if you can.
    Thank you.

The thread you have resurrected is 9 years old. The person who posted it has not been on here in 4 years. Thus they are probably not going to be a great source of assistance for you, but others may be able to help if you offer more information, such as what led to the car not starting? Have you just serviced it? Did it suddenly stop in the middle of the road? Did you just buy it as a non-runner? Find it abandoned in the bush? Give us some detail. Also where is Mecanichan? Google seems never to have heard of such a place.
