    Purchasing questions

    Hi all,

I am thinking of selling my impractical but fast Subie, and buying an impractical LR.
I have always loved the 110s, and I think now might be the time to dive in.
So, with a budget with a soft upper of about $30k, what year would that get me, and how much fruit (accessories), on average?

Also, what is the difference between the 4 & 5 cyl versions? Is the 5 a better donk?

Xtreme - what does that mean? Just decals and rims, or other stuff?

Thanks in advance, and happy new year!

For the sort of money you mention, you are looking at either the 2.5 five cylinder TD5 engine, 1999-2007, or the TDci (sometimes referred to as "puma") four cylinder engine 2007 to date, in 2.4 (earlier) and 2.2 (current) versions.

The five cylinder engine is a Landrover engine, whose development was stopped following the BMW takeover. Reliable, except for a couple of known, avoidable problems, very durable, but does not stand overheating, and can be expensive to repair or overhaul.

The four cylinder engine is a Ford product shared with other vehicles, notably Ford Transit. I don't know a lot about them, but there do not seem to be many problems.

Both engines give roughly the same performance, although the Ford engine benefits from a six speed Ford gearbox.

(Pre-TD% engines were several four cylinder engines, but you will not be looking at them if you are offering $30k.)

You can expect selling prices to depend more on condition and maintenance records than on age and extras.

The Ford engined vehicles have a new dash, do away with the traditional below windscreen vents, and are alleged to have an effective airconditioner and heater, something that is not the case with earlier models.

Xtreme is pretty much as you guess, just a trim and accessory level.

    Hope this helps

you could have mine if you were in brissy

    Happy new year all

I will be advertising my 110 next week, it's in your budget and only has a fraction of K's on the clock compared to others the same year (2007) due to not having employment for the last 3 years

    cheers

Brisbane to Sydney... that's a day trip on our side of the country!

Leg room is easily fixed with the seat rails, but if you have a long body (in relation to your legs) they just unfortunately don't work. I've got a mate who's only 5'11" and his head touches the roof in my car (which has seat rails - I'm 6'1", but don't really need them). This actually makes it uncomfortable for him to even sit in the driver seat, let alone drive the car.

    Cheers,

    Lou

    Hi mate,

I'm a smidge over 6ft 1in and I fit fine without aftermarket seat rails in my 2014 110 wagon.

The driving position can be adjusted to a well-postured, stable platform without my knees touching anything (until I wedge them sideways for bracing).

Of course, each person's dimensions can vary considerably, even if similar height… so check it out prior to purchase.

Definitely go for a test drive (as long in duration and distance that you can squeeze out of the dealer). You will struggle handing him back the keys

If you go for billy's truck, you can book a cheap flight to Bris and drive her home

    Cheers,
    Nige

I test drove a 2006 today, and really liked it.
I think it was overpriced to be honest - mechanically it was OK, with a few accessories as well, but was a little rough for the price.

I have a couple lined up for the weekend too, they are all my10 and above.

It was certainly snug fitting into it, but nothing too bad. Posture wise, it was great.

This one had a switch on the gearstick - the owner didn't know what it did though. I was wondering if it was a centre diff lock or something?

Billy, please let me know, but I think I am after something Puma-ish, and preferably less than a 10hr drive away
