    Puma (2010) Battery Specs

    All,

I've scoured the manual, the net and AULRO, all to no avail - it shouldn't be this hard. My 2010 Puma came with an Optima D34R red top installed by the previous owner and as such I'm unsure of the OEM battery's specs.

Please can someone mention the required minimum (or optimum) CCA for cranking the 2.4L Puma engine...

I'm looking at my options to throw 2x dual purpose AGMs in.

    Many thanks.

YGD500160 original part, was a Varta I think, then superseded by LR018680, which was then superseded by LR030212.

    LR030212 - Battery OEM

Having said all that, the link that Lou posted is the battery that's in my 2010.

    Thanks fellas.

So that supercharge battery at 720CCA is obviously sufficient to crank the engine compared to the OEM battery in the link at 855CCA?

Am looking at a battery with 760CCA and hoping it will suit?

    Cheers

The best approach is the highest CCA you can get with the minimum physical dimensions. The original parts batteries as fitted in the UK are reasonably bespoke for Land Rover, and while you can find the matching 855 CCA, finding one that'll go in the box is a separate consideration.

The height is obviously the biggest issue, especially with a dual battery tray added, but there is a number of build threads on here where the guys have successfully shoehorned 2 biggish batteries into the bay.

I have personally gone with a single crank battery and the external Arkpak "power pack" fitted with a 120Ah deep cycle battery. It lives most of the time in the garage on its trickle charger and when I go on a trip I just slot it into its bespoke mounts in the back of the 90 where it functions on a 12V trickle charger and powers all non permanent auxiliaries.

Added functionality is that when I camp I take it out of the car and put it in the tent with the National Luna fridge which it will power for 2 weeks without any issues. When you pack up you just connect the trickle charger again and at home it goes back on the shelf with the mains trickle charger.

I got mine from Opposite Lock, but you can obviously order it from Motoquipe.

Thanks Lou, i like the Arkpak but the price is out of my realms, unfortunately.

I believe I will be able to fit two Deka Intimidator 9A48 dual purpose AGM's under the seat.

Simply, will the 760CCA comfortably crank the Puma engine? Given the 800CCA Optima red top I have now seems to do the job adequately.

I'm no auto spark, but in my experience 760CCA would be plenty.

Looks like an interesting product, but the website has no information that I can find about the internal dimensions! Unbelievable!

    I would be interested in whether an N70 (304 x 173 x 224) size would fit.

UPDATE: Found the information via a different search. Seems an N70 size would fit! This looks a great product.

    Cheers,

It doesn't often get to 0F (-17.778C ) in Australia so you can be pretty sure the CCA is OK.

Whoops the chart looked fine before I posted so go to the link for comparison of CCA,CA, and HCA. CA and HCA are more relevant to Oz.

    Lionel,

Superb product and you certainly won't regret getting one. Every mod and addition inside my car has been made to be removable in minutes as I need the car in a number of configurations depending on activity for the day and the Arkpak works perfectly for me.

I have a Century C12-105DA AGM Deep Cycle Battery (105Ah) fitted and as I said before, I've powered my National Luna fridge for just short of two weeks without charge or any issue. The dimensions in the link below is pretty much max physical size as I bought the battery with the unit, but you should still be ok with 224mm height.
