			2009 130 Defender-Starting problems....

My 2009 130 Defender is playing up on start up, this has gradually got worse,
the starter motor is firing for one brief crank then nothing..
I have gone through a process of elimination and it seems to be the barrel,
if i wiggle the key with pressure on one side it fires the engine up.

Does anyone have advice on a diy fix to this problem???

Landrover have had issue's with the ignition barrel on the puma, I think there was even a recall notice. Slightly different issue though as the barrel was jamming causing the starter to over run, and hence failure of both. I think Samblers had this happen at the beginning of this year.

Just do a quick search under "ignition barrel" and it should answer some if not all of your questions.
Here's a few to get you started.

 Cheers, Ian.

Thanks for the info, all is welcome.
I have sprayed into the barrel WD40, thought I would give it a try before I give up and throw money at it, this seems to have done the trick, after a few more cranks of the key and a lot of carbon colour deposit it has started to fire up straight away.
Not sure if this is a long term solution though. I will see how it fires up over the coming days.
