SOLD THE 110 & HEADING INTO IVECO TERRITORY

The Defender (Zombie) is sold to make way for the purchase of an Iveco 4x4. I only had the truck for a year and half but clocked up a respectable 50000km's and did 4 good sized trips and lots of weekend camping trips in that time. Selling the Defender was certainly hard on my daughters, they just didnt understand and were genuinely upset that Zombie was going. They did ask if they could still play spot the Defender and wave.

Not sure what's in store for the Iveco but Im certainly looking forward to a few things it has to offer more of then a regular 4WD, and what comes to fruition of the final setup. I'm going to miss the Defender and who knows maybe I'll end up with one again.

Want to thank everyone on this forum for being helpful and I plan on having a sticky beak everyone now and because it's a community I enjoyed being a part of.

    Cheers.

Ill be honest I have no idea. I want to try and retain the camping feel so I dont want a module on the back of it for now. Once I have the truck and an idea of the space I am working with, hopefuly something will come up. Sounds silly but I want to utilise it much like I would a 130 but with more space to work with.
In the end I may just end up with a module on it but Im trying to avoid that at this stage.

Well at least your tools are not going to go rusty like they would if you bought a Toyota .

The Muppets that do Iveco servicing and Warranty work really have no idea at all. The biggest problem, come service time, you are paying them to learn how to do the job - They may be great at servicing linehaul stuff but this truck is a whole new animal with weird stuff that has never been seen in this country before.

    A great 4x4 but .... Very quirky.

I don't want to put you off, but be prepared for a Fleet mentality that don't know how to deal with individual customers.

There is an owners group on Facebook (groan) that report issues and problems, (you have to have your $ down before they let you in ), One reported issue is vibration on take off that has been tracked down to stuffed transfer case mounting bushes . I took mine to Iveco Sydney to get fixed, Service manager called me a idiot for believing stuff on the internet, He checked bushes and said they were fine. They are silentbloc the same construction as, and about the same size as Defender trailing arm bushes,

What do you think - stuffed or what

You can't put me off now Don, nothing could . But I have a good reliable mechanic friend of the family that I always go to for work if all else fails. He actually encouraged me like yourself to go for the Iveco. I mentioned your issues with the rotor replacement and other things, and he was still encouraging. Maybe I'll show him your video to see what he thinks also.

    Cheers.

That's a good little vid goingbush! Hope you showed the clown at Iveco. Tbh, they're not much better in the UK. I ran a 65C15 for a few years (same double cab as yours but on a 6.5t chassis and with the older 150 hp 2.8 engine). It had boost issues and the turbo wouldn't spool up until late in the rev range. I had two visits, and I finally fixed it myself by doing a bit of research on the interweb. Kinda wished I'd imported that and not an off roader when we migrated!! Mine was similar to this pic, but white and a lot tidier!

These issues are just stupid little things,
If you know a good mechanic and help from the forum, thats all you need.

oh and for goodness sake don't listen to Iveco and wait 40k till the first service, that might work for a Powerstar 7800 , but change ALL the oils at say 5000km , then every 15 or 20k is fine for the engine. After the first change at 5k do the diffs and gearboxes every 50k. Syntrans in box, Syntrax in T/C.

Im going to replace the Transfer Case bushes with SuperPro poly shackle bushes from, dare I say, a Jeep , If iveco fix it under warranty with standard India Rubber the same thing will happen down the track. I'd rather do it so that it works .

    all good.

I could give you the old Italian Tank Joke but your Iveco 4x4 has actually got 4 reverse gears

Well, when you get the new Iveco, make sure you come back here and put up a new thread all about it (or post a link to a blog, or whatever). I'm always interested to see what people are doing/building, even if it is not Land Rover based.

Good luck with the move. They look like awesome bits of kit.

    Cheers

Will do. It will be a slow process for me.
