I think John R of this forum is an instrument repairer.
Someone like Lionel Otto Instruments - Automotive Instrument Repairs could do it.
G'day all,
I have just bought a county and the speedo only reaches 40kmh. No jokes about slow vehicle please.
Cheers,
John

Hi John,
Be carefull about replacing speedos. The odometer readings form part of the rego details and if you do change it you will need to register that it has been changed with your roads authority.
It can bite you when you sell the vehicle if you don't.
As the other have said you are better off fixing the old one.
If they have to alter the odo reading they will (or should) send you a confirmation letter that you can send on to the rego authority.

Stick a Td5 speedo in, a few wiring mods but heaps better![]()
Thanks all.
Sounds like repair makes the most sense.
Cheers,

I'd work out if it's the speedo at fault -might just be the end of the cable not engaged fully in the back of the speedo-or the end may be slightly rounded off.
Most times the problem is the cable. (but that usually means no reading at all)
I have had my speedo repaired by a well known instrument repairer in Brisbane.
Good to deal with, however the needle fell off before I had it connected up, so I sent it back.
Then the calibration was miles out (over-reading by a lot), so I sent it back.
The calibration is still out (the other way this time) 100 on the speedo is 110, etc....
They have always been good about it, and would probably accept it back for another go, but I am over it...
If I had my time again I would have fitted a TD5 speedo as suggested above or a new speedo.
Another possibility is that the worm wheel on the output shaft is slipping when the speed gets above 40kph. This will be due to the nut on the end of the output shaft being loose. While more common on Series vehicles, there is nothing I can see that would stop it from happening with coil spring one. Fix is simple - disconnect the rear prop shaft by removing the four flange bolts, and tighten the nut. Note that the handbrake will not work with the rear prop shaft disconnected unless the centre diff is locked. But chock it anyway.
