    Leaking 2013 Puma

Just got back from the windscreen crew (had 2 new screens and 4 attempts to seal the screen) and seems that now the screen is sealed but the door seals are leaking. The seals look good, they are springy and the doors seem to be closing tight enough but they are still leaking.

Has anyone come across this and what was your solution?

    Thanks in advance.

If its only started leaking after the windscreen was fitted they had definitely done something to it. To fit the windscreen they would have gripped the front pillar a number of times and most probably dislodged or damaged it.I'd bet its leaking between the car (windscreen frame) and the rubber rather than the rubber and the door as per your diagnoses.

I'd take it back for them to remove and refit, but they might just end up making it worse. They it uses a number of methods to attach itself to the car and some of the clips are really single use and needs replacing if dislodged once. This is something they would definitely not have done...

    Cheers,

    Lou

noted Loubrey, but I was in the car while testing was taking place.... you can see the water dripping between the seal and the door frame. Even on the horizontal section above the window.

By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Thanks andy, I think I have a copy somewhere.... and I'm sure it's in the files section as well. I was sort of hoping someone could save me the time of reading it. Lazy? Yes, Yes I am.

    Hi Debruiser,

Depends where your doors are leaking from....mine (2008 Puma 110) was leaking at the top of the door. I noticed it after or during heavy rain when the water would come in and drip down onto my arm from the top of the door. Was the same on the passenger side.

Turned out it was the roof seal - one that runs across the top of the car where it joins the gutter. I could see that the previous owner had thrown a load of silicone in there but I think perhaps it had dried out and become ineffective again. Would just need a clean and a reapplication of silicone I guess. The Water Ingress Bible informs you what type to use but I'd imagine it's made for the European conditions and not the Australian heat and dust.

My leaky doors were fixed by having a Pop Top installed by Daniel at Mulgo. Yes, it's an expensive fix for a leaking roof/ doors, but you'll never look back.

Top tips from Loubrey there (as always) re the misalignment after a good twist and bend to refit the windscreen.

dont they all leak? i just ignore it.

Might be worth looking at the seal between the windscreen frame and roof gutter, for the door seal, on another vehicle(not a defender) i was able to insert a rubber cord(used in fly-screen doors) inside the seal the beef it up through a small slit i cut, i used several pieces in the leaky area which fixed the leak.
