Thread: Who has a front centre seat fitted?

It may not be much help to you as the mounts appear to be different, but here are two pics of the seat belt mounts in one of my 90.
N.b: the seat belt mount on the drivers side are put in swapped around, just was easier to do it that way.

Years ago I have series Land Rovers , my last one was a model called a Game . That had a centre seat , I can tell you whoever is sitting in It won't want to travel to far , there's nowhere to put there feet , or even there legs , I never found a female that was comfortable , especially when you go into second gear !!..

Why would anyone be so cruel as to fit a centre seat and then expect some poor sod to sit there!?

You'll also need to have it inspected and re-plated for the extra seat otherwise its unroadworthy

I've got a front center seat in my 130 dual cab and are going to get it registered as a 6 seater. Shouldn't be a problem, I've forgotten the exact rules but it's something like they make it an average of 68kg X No. seats with a full tank of fuel and all accessories, you're Tare mass can't be more than half the payload, or something... if it's too heavy it will be classified differently which opens a can of worms. I'm getting a few things engineered at once so will do it then.

As for why would anyone want to sit in the center front? our three kids fight over it, thay all love it, and so do we as it leaves the other two in the back seperated, priceless And very handy to have a spare seat for when we pick up Grandma etc.

Back in military days we used to drive the 10 seater Land Rover SIII's (Leyland R6) between barracks and officers college.

Smallest person always had to use the "jump seat", quite often a female CO and finding 2nd and 4th often got very close to being inappropriate! The worn gearboxes and wandering steering of the 19 year old (at that time) vehicles didn't help much either!

Being a family of 6, 4 littlies under 8, 2 of which are under 2, space is a priority. A six seat dual cab ute is the perfect option for us as with the double pushchair, all our outdoorsy gear, fridge, gazebo, (the list goes on ..........). A 7 seater 4wd just wouldn't cut it in terms of space, and of course only a Land Rover would do
Anyway it will only be a littlie using the seat for the very foreseeable future!

Back to my original query - the driver/passenger belt buckle bracket has two bolts, the rearmost smaller one being where the rear of the new centre seat seems to have to mount.

Will it be ok to mount both the the seat and bracket via the one bolt hole? The same for the centre seat belt, it seems the likely mounting point is the larger bolt on the drivers belt buckle bracket, and again will it be ok to mount both the bracket and the new belt in one hole?

It seems as though I may need to take a trip to a local garage who does mod plating to get their take on it.

From what I could gather on pre 2007 defenders it would be a simple, remove cubby box, fix centre seat and belts to existing mounting points and bobs your uncle. Seems as though theres a little more to it than that
