Power steering fluid leak
G'Day Gents,
I have just started getting that lovely GRRRR noice when I try to spin my steering wheel, when it's cold. :-(
Checked the Power steering fluid level and it's low..... My MY14 90 has done 19000 km and has already developed a leak. Needless to say i am not very happy...
But the problem as I see it is that the fluid that is in it, is not red..... Can I just top up with ATF3? (Red slippery stuff :-) )
Unfortunately, I just don't have time to take it in for warranty (again), until it gets it's first service.
Your thoughts gents?????????
Cheers,
Phill.

If you look up from underneath the vehicle at the power steering fluid reservoir , if you have a leak it will be on the piping below the reservoir. There is a nut that you tighten just above the flexible piping.
The hand book will list the specs of the fluid needed, colour does not matter but the ATF should be O.K. I used it in my 2.4.
Different brands have different change intervals.
Over here I'm told to use Castrol Cold Climate stuff but I could never get it anywhere!

Just to put out there the findings...
I have just had my vehicle serviced (20K km service) and they looked at the power steering fluid leak. I is apparently the top seal ("O"ring) of the power steering unit. No OEM seals in Aust'.
Now I will have to have the warrantee work done by Barbegello's once they have ordered the new seal in....
Sometimes things are just not simple fixes..... :-(
Cheers,
Phill.

I also had the steering box replaced under warranty on the 2008 model. I noticed some dampness on the unit. Seems it was a fairly common fault.
