    130 Defender Exhaust Question!

Hello All, I needed to make a post so I might as well stat with something thats "baffaling" me!

I have 130 2.4 2008 model and I have had the centre muffler removed and small resonator put in place plus I have punched out the Cat so its pretty much a straight through system.. however its still as silent as before but it does feel better under accceleration! Why oh why is silent? makes no sense to me as I have done this on older TDi and it sounded and went a lot better!

    Thanks, Cam.

I have done similar, removed the centre muffler with straight through pipe, left the rear resonator in place but havnt removed the cat... YET..
Mine is also still just as quiet, i figured removing the cat would make the difference, maybe you should try unbolting it before the resonator you put in see how it sounds with out the 2 resonators so you have a real straight through exhaust then!

i had no meaningful increase in dB fitting a 3" exhaust to a MY10 130. cat removed, new centre muffler, no resonator. That said the reason for a new exhaust was the old one had rusted and the centre muffler was cactus so it might have been louder than stock.

You'd be a more sensitive man than I if you can detect an improvement in performance over the stock system.

    I have a 130 with a hs 2.8 tgv. This is basically a stroked 300 tdi.
I run a 3 inch exhaust with no mufflers or resonators just straight pipe and I think ive heard the exhaust note twice. Its very quiet.
The only time I hear it is when I drive close to a wall or through a tunnel. I have to be up it though.
    Cheers
    Michael.

All the other noise is probably drowning it out! Big tyres, engine rattle/growl, turbo whistle, doof doof music etc
