Sounds like the current Defender to me. But I doubt the JLR design team see it. And certainly not the penny pinchers.

Why not simply design the new underpinnings to fit an exact copy of the current body dimensions / form? Sure they could lose the rivets and update the manufacturing process, but it's the timeless form of Defender that just works. A new design within the current dimensions would be a dream project for me.

The current form isn't ideal though is it? I love it. You love it but really, it does have it's disadvantages.
    Cheers, Billy.

It's more ideal than anything else on the road cuppa. Is there any vehicle you think is more ideal than a Defender?

Everything has its faults. For me Defender has less design faults than any other vehicle available today. Perfection only exists in imperfection.

What are Defenders disadvantages over any other 4WD on the market today?

Well lets see. I wouldn't mind if the B pillar was 150mm further aft and the tops of the window 20mm higher. Perhaps another 20mm for my right elbow would be good too. Not much I know, but once you start changing things, where do you stop?
I think a whole new approach is necessary. After all a new approach doesn't have to mean a new philosophy.

Hmm...I reckon a new philosophy - JLR glorified shopping trolley - is driving the new approach.

That would be a total waist of time. How many variations on the "Shopping Trolly" do they need to come up with? A new concept, old philosophy would sell more units if it was done with integrity and genuine ingenuity. Don't you think JLR is capable of that?

But I totally agree... This is what's needed.

However they would have done it by now if they were capable. ...2019 now? Pffttt. They have no idea what to do.

It wouldn't pass the crash tests because it doesn't crumple enough to absorb impacts, so the forces hit the occupants instead.

D4 is a box on wheels with crumple zones. Why not shape one to the exact dimensions of a Defender, with extra heavy duty components?
