I just crawled under my 130 as I don't remember a wire like this in my recent clutch install. I don't have one. I have a loom in black conduit running in this location from above the gearbox to the back but nothing like what you have.
Does the handbrake light work on the handbrake? It will also operate on low brake fluid.

The handbrake light is on when first starting but goes off with the other lights, before disengaging the brake. Could be the problem?

If pulling the handbrake on and releasing has no effect on the warning light, then that is probably the culprit. The light should be on whenever the handbrake is on. What you see at start up would be the self-test for the bulb.

The other obvious question would have been what the wire colours were, and look it up on RAVE to find where it should go.

Bingo. Thanks mate. Now I just have to find where it connects on the handbrake. Shouldn't be too hard.

Ok, so I think I have found where your wire connects. I too have a Defender Td5 99. I put the thing on ramps, grabbed my phone and snapped a couple pics. Now lets see if I can post these pics...

    A. I cannot tell by your picture, but does it join this bunch?

    B.

    C. I followed the wire (which looks like yours) and this is what I found.

    D. And this is where the other part of the wire comes out of the body work. It can be found above the T/C on the right hand side above another pipe.

Hopefully this helps... and is the right wire... Haha. It was the only one in that area. I am so glad I got the high pressure hose out a couple days ago and gave the underbody a good wash!

Thanks Scotty! That's above and beyond mate. Definitely the right wire and should put me on the right track.
