Screeching from Td5 engine on accelaration.

    Hi Guys,
I have a small problem. I started the car and drove to work this morning. Almost immediately it made a loud screeching noise on acceleration in all gears. You can maintain the noise with the throttle and feather the noise by accelerating and backing off.
Once home I had a helper rev the car until the noise appeared, it seems to be coming from the Turbo. I used a stethoscope and its very noticeable from the turbo. But Im not sure if its transference from another componant.
I have a wrapped manifold which is leaking from no 5 exhaust stud snapped off i haven't fixed yet. But more telling is the play in the turbine axle. Although not accurately measured its around 2-3 mm with the engine off.
has anyone had this issue and what was the problem?

the noise is being caused by your warped manifold.

yes its a common well known and often solved problem with multiple solutions.

use warped manifold and webbing as search words in the forum search for loads more info.

    Thanks Dave,
I hope that's the case. I'm not able to stretch to a new turbo. And if/when I do I like to do it properly and do a full BAS VNT upgrade.
It makes sense though as the exhaust leak has been getting more noticeable over the last few weeks. It started making a real 'tick tick tick' then today the screeching.
    Thanks a lot
