How water tight is the Defender air box?

Can anyone tell me how water tight is the air box on 2.2l diesel? sealing the snorkel at the body is one thing but can water get in if the air box is under water??

Yes. The joins under the bonnet just slide together. Contact Nugget on here. He makes an airtight kit. That replaces the standard plumbing.

Or you could just put some sealant on the join like I did, Havn't had it submerged enough to tell if it works but I'm pretty confident it would

I am looking to fit a Sherpa snorkel and it occurred to me that its pointless if water gets in from the air box or other joints. Thanks for both replies, 2 other questions: How do I get my photo on the threads (new member finding my way) and how do I contact Nugget?

    Cheers

    It's not !

Sealing the snorkel/ducting to the air box is one thing and the Nugget Stuff kit is pretty good.

But be aware the air box lid is not water proof at all. Deep water crossing, with water upto or over the bonnet will cause water to leak under the lid into the box wetting the element.

I've tried silicon grease, adhesive backed foam around the lid, nothing works......we need Nugget to start manufacturing a replacement air box assemble.

How is the Nugget kit fitted if a snorkel is already installed?
