1 week old and my 1st issue

I am no mechanic but mine has been with the dealer for 4 weeks now trying to sort out an ABS problem both Landrover aus and UK are involved. Unit replaced but apparently it is some mapping problem the ABS is not talking to something. As I said I am no Mechanic. So I have told them don't care just fix it and to be fair they trying their best and have given me a Jaguar XF replacement car.

My advice take it to the dealer and leave it there till they fix it.

I did two drives of the same trip. One in heavy traffic with plenty of brake use, and one with little traffic and very limited brake use.

The first trip resulted in the laboured effort and very hot rims (sawtooth alloys) x 4, whereas the second trip the alloys were reasonably cool.

I'm dropping the car back with the dealer this afternoon to fit my APT steering & diff guards, Rijidij wheel carrier and Mulgo bumperettes, and then they'll keep it for the brake issue. Looks like I'm getting a Disco 4 for the troubles. :cool:

There's two with the same problem,if your rims are hot the brakes are coming on no question. Pat

I am sure it will get fixed quickly and you will be back in and enjoying it in no time. Worst thing is with the Discovery the wife may wonder why she gave you the ok to get the Defender!

Haha, she's all over it already! The Disco had 150km on it, and they accommodated my request for a 7 seater. The good lady reckons I now don't need a car for the next week or so, and she's taken over the driving.

I had a similar issue in early '80's in a jap sedan.

After various mechanics and engineers ( proper auto engineers) replaced kits on all corners and master; with no improvement the car was taken to a retired bloke out bush.

2 days later all resolved as the brake light switch nut/bolt were loose and not allowing the pedal to fully return; ergo; the brakes master being ever so slightly on all the time.

Maybe something to consider.

Not too bad, I had my first problem on the morning of the second day and lost it for two weeks. Same problem surfaced second day of getting it back, then lost lost the vehicle for 6 weeks.
I suggest you focus on a good relationship with the dealer. Be casual, understanding, trusting. You can be use the awkward uncomfortable truth as time wears on but don't harrase them. It can be frustrating.
There is a lot of good info on here, but most of us are guessing at potential issues. These tend to make you paranoid of your cars reliability, so just let the dealer do their thing. From my experience they will go beyond (sorry the pun) you expectorations through out the whole warranty if you have a good relationship with them.

Send them pics of your car on trips when you get it back, tell them how great it is. They like to see their product out there and working well.

Good luck with it and just enjoy the loaner.

Excellent post,a bloke had the very same problem on the defender2 forum when I asked,another thought the vent in the brake master cylinder could be blocked causing a vacuum holding the cylinder on. Pat

Good advice newhue. Thankfully I've got a good relationship with the new car salesman, and he's aware of some of my frustrations with seperate issues (delays to accessories) and he's doing his best to help.
