I guess it had to happen one day

Started the Tdi this morning and she started to squeak, popping the bonnet there was a bit of coolant on the rad hoses and a bit of movement on the water pump pulley,17 years and exactly 474400km's on the clock the water pump bearing has let go.Yesterday I changed the original heater matrix, today the original water pump, looks like keeping the cooling system in top condition and running glycol coolant has been worth the effort, still running original head gasket and radiator and never had overheating issue's ever, good little jigger the Tdi . I got my TDI at just under 200,000 , it now has over 600,000 .
I carry a spare water pump for when the inevitable happens , but haven't needed it yet . The heater core on the other hand cost me a head .
It gave up at full noise up Armadale hill heading out of Perth , by the time I noticed it was too late . Removed it and have lived without it ever since , simple is best , a bit cold down south this time of year , but what the hell , put on another jumper . Have since fitted a low water alarm .

Repco quoted me $96 for a RYCO Td5 centrifugal filter. When I said they are only $30 genuine or 7GBP OS. I was told 'ok, buy a genuine one then'

If people spent money on good preventative maintenance like their vehicles cooling system instead of wasting it on crap like 5K oil changes the LR community we would be a happier bunch of vegemites. Pat
