    FYI 2.4 Duratorq Engine info

Just thought i would post this info, I have several transit field service vehicles, all with 2.4 duratorq, similar engine fitted to late model defender puma.
1 transit has 230,000kms on clock, well serviced we are mobile forklift technicians, so carry out-
    10,000km services-engine oil/filter/CR injector cleaner
    30,000Km services-all filters
    50,000Km services- diff, gbox oils

This transit has had fuel supply issues/bad idle so booked into ford dealer, that apparently "specialise in transits".

The dealer advised that the high pressure fuel pump had failed (internal disintergration) causing metal swarf (there words ) to then damage the injectors!!!!!!!!!!!!
    QUOTE FOR REPAIRS-$9500

Bear in mind my tech drove the transit there, not delivered on tow truck!!
So we then took transit to a independant transit specialist who advised issues with the valve on pump & pressure reg, he also recalibarted injectors... all for under $500

The duratorq is a fantastic, powerful, economical engine so don't be fooled by dealers who have no idea!!

Yep, it appear that the 'replace everything' approach is pretty much the standard approach - however the fuel control valve on the back of the pump is typically the most sensitive part and often the cause.

Don't worry, it's not any particular marque doing the upsell!

    Interesting info Leigh, thanks.

I have a new pump on my vehicle which only cost $950 I think, new injectors can be had from Sydney for around $2,500 for a reco set. I have my old pump and injectors sitting in the shed
I'm guessing then, it just needs to be tuned (pilot programmed), which I had done in Wodonga for for around $500, (6+ hours sitting on the dyno looking for any issues/problems with the whole system). This job of course can actually be done by any dealer, or someone with the right equipment. Mine was done on a dyno due to LR being unable to do the job properly

And this is of course, is why we all refer to dealers as STEALERS. Very frustrating indeed.

Drove Transit Today for first time since non dealer repair.....
FANTASTIC, it drives like new. This vehicle is spot on max tare-3050KG
and drives like a steam train, my tech has almost done a full tank, and we are out to good fuel economy-800km per 80 litre tank.
Total cost was $450 and it took 2 hrs, new pump reg, injector re-flash....
It is worth noting that the WURTH CR injector cleaner is working.
    Couldn't be happier.
    DEALERS=STEALERS
