    A-frame ball joint

    Hi All,
I am in need of a A-frame ball joint, any one got any suggestions on what good brand to get? it seems there is so much junk out there on the market now that doesnt last so i would prefer one that i can get some longevity out of! Also not sure if its worth while going for one that is adjustable?

    Thanks,

Out of interest, are you getting any particular symptoms that the joint is on its way out, or have you just identified some play at the joint?

I've used the mr automotive ones with the grease nipple atop and adjustable probably a dear way to do it. That said they have each lasted around 5 years and that in a lot of mud and water.

I should probably point out that i have a week before i leave for darwin so locally sourced or within 2 days of shipping would be good.

Ive been chasing a rattle/nock/noise in the rear when coasting at low speeds over bumpy ground or going from over run to throttle at low speeds for a while now, ive changed a number of bushes and checked everything out, the ball joint is really the only thing it can be now, its the original one nearly 4 years old and 100,000km

I found with mine that it doesn't take much play to translate to a fair old clunking from underneath

X2 and mine was also fairly easy to change (with a 20 tonne press) in reality they don't look a lot dearer than some of the others, but it's only the ball not the mount/housing as well.

    Bearmach. (from Karcraft)

Adjustable for wear and from what I've seen has possibly the widest operating angle of any ball joint.
I drilled and tapped the adjuster for a grease nipple and filled it with my favourite CAT moly grease, probably going a little overboard.

    Or Maxi Drive from MR.

I've used both of these - the Karcraft job looked virtually exactly the same with no grease nipple, which was easy enough to add. Much cheaper from Karcraft.

I do like that german job in the post from cccp53 - the hex nut surely must be easier to adjust than the slot on the usual design, but bloody expensive!

Ok i went with bearmach, i looked at everything available pretty much, i went to 4wd industries at maitland this arvo and the guys there had about 6-7 different brands waiting for me to check on the table! while i liked the setup of the 250 odd dollar high flex one as picture above, the hex nut for adjusting a grease nipple were nice but i could justify 200 extra over the bearmach which had just as much angle available, and feels just as well made but lack the grease nipple.

But tonight i am regretting not buy the dear one simply for the fact that i cant press the damn thing out of the a-frame arm using my brothers 10t press, the expensive one came with a new a-frame section already pressed in and ready to go.

Looks like i have to go find a nice mechanic open on a saturday with a bigger press...

Have you checked the rear door hinges, sounds stupid but surprisinghow much noise these can make.
