So today i finally figured out that one of the pesky oil leaks is coming from the vacuum pump snd why the brakes are so bad. After reading a few threads on here people have drilled out the rivets and used bolts to fasten. Is this all that is involved?
A few threads mention a tutorial from a "landyace.com" this page does not exist anymore to my knowledge, does anyone know if it d oes exist or a thread on the subject?

Do you have any vacuum ? because there are other faults with the vacuum pump that can't be repaired, mine have failed this way twice in the past, broken spring (or at least that how it feels).

The pump uses engine oil as lubrication. The pump expels the unwanted air and excess oil along a channel returning it to the engine block. There are two welch plugs along this channel that may also leak badly. I knocked the welch plugs out, threaded the holes and installed bolts with plumbers tape.
I reasoned that if the welch plugs on the expulsion side let oil out, then the 3rd welch plug, located on the vacuum channel may let air in, so it got the same thread and bolt treatement.
Not suggesting people go to such extremes, just I needed some practice on the lathe. And I was rather annoyed that two new units of different makes leaked from the plugs straight after installation so was determined on some sort of fix.
Just buy a new pump,my last one cost me $110 delivered to my door. Pat
One of the little valves fell out of it's housing and got pounded to death by the piston in my last one. That caused one of the welch plugs to leak. I thought I was being smart when the local repco had replacement welch plugs, but when dismantled I found the real cause which made it irreparable. 'Hello Roverlord'

As said '...I was rather annoyed that two new units...leaked...straight after installation...'.
I could have sent the new units back from Darwin to Brisbane and got a refund less the cost to me of sending them back. Then I could go to some other Land Rover parts supplier, only to find they send me the same brands with the tendency to leak soon after. I have four Disco 1 Tdi vehicles and have replaced a few of these pumps. It just gets to the point of enough of the new parts merry go round - fix it - even if it means doing it myself!
As Don130 indicates, if you can get quality welch plugs from Repco, then easy solution.
Where they leaking from the cover?,if they were cold chisel the first two threads,a dab of thread locker and do up tight. Pat
