As there had been some questions recently regarding fuel consumption on a Simpson desert trip I thought some might be interested in the following stats.
the section of the trip that I am still currently on covers the area from Mt Dare to Birdsville via the following tracks.
Mt dare -Dalhousie Springs-Wonga junction-Rig Road-Linnies Corner-WAA Line-Erabena Track-lone Gum tree-Rig Road-Warburton Track-Birdsville track to Birdsville.
The total distance covered was 753 km.
I refuelled at Mt dare and the light came on shortly after joining the Birdsville track at 550 km. I added 20 litres to the main tank and continued to Birdsville where I refuelled taking 63 litres to fill.
total distance 753 km. fuel used 83 litres.
Average consumption 11 litres per 100 km.
The vehicle is a 2009 110 Puma I had a 440 kg load and nothing on the roof. This does not include the weight of the driver, the bull bar ,the winch or the rock sliders.
Tyres were down to 15 on the front and 18 on the back whilst in soft sand and about 25/35 on normal gravel roads
I had the vehicle remapped by Bruce Davis a couple of years ago. he described it as a mild remap for economy and a bit more power, I am quite pleased with it.
I am currently in Cairns and will meander back to Tassie over the next couple of months.
I hope someone finds this of use
