    Run in a Puma?

    110 arrives on Monday.

I know running in an engine these days is generally a not done.
    But should I?

    And whats the correct procedure?

(I remember years ago we were told not to run engine on constant revs due to glazing etc....)

Pretty sure it's not required, I drove mine hard from day one, it took till about 30,000km to start to free up and from 40,000 km the consumption started dropping.

Cool, what were the symptoms of freeing up (less mud on the tyres!!!) Just the km/l or what?

Here is a link to a few words on the topic that I wrote a year or so ago.

New 110 DC in the family...

Basically don't baby them. They need to work, get on boost, to ensure rings seal properly etc.

Just drive it normally, same with braking, don't flog it,don't baby it,all will be good

Also don't sit for long periods at a constant speed.

Over the years, have had 3 new D2's,a new D4,did this, never had an issue.

Oh,and that many new work vans i have lost count?.

Dont let it struggle in too low a gear,
    Fit a BAS chip
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Keep it revving. They're not happy below 2000 rpm in sixth, for example, so go down a gear and keep it in the power band.

Thanks for that good write up.

    Thanks to all so far.

Most of you guys say the same thing I was thinking.
i.e. Dont baby it, seat in the rings etc.. Dont prolong constant revs..

    Cheers

Now we've onto the first oil change question
20,000 as per the manual, unless arduous, then 10,000, correct
Or whatever feels good to you, I did 5000, correct as my car my money
Will probably change the drive line fluids well before the schedule to.

And my EGR is now off, another breach of factory protocol

I took mine to LRM for services in the first year, but did two: 7000km and 17,000km. That was just because I wasn't happy with the longer interval. No logical or reasoned approach.

I changed all the transmission oils at about 10,000km too (with indie mechanic) but that was because of water crossings.

Throughout the second year I used my indie mechanic. I bought the oil in bulk. Did 10,000km changes.
