    lt230 input gear

    hi guys i need to remove my input gear for trasfer box. Any tips. ive removed inspection cover. i can see the gear but it wont come out for some reason. any tips? Also there are leaks coming from the transfer case where does it tipically leak? Thnaks in advance gents

    if the mainshaft is shagged could anybody advise me where i could source a rebuilt or good second nhand lt77 in melbourne?

    What year defender do you own.
    Or better yet what is the serial number of the LT230.

    The gear should be able to be slid out once the retaining plate is removed. G-bag and case in neutral helps.

    The classic leak point for the LT230 is from the intermediate shaft. With time the hardened shaft ovals out the slide fit hole in the aluminium case. When this happens the oil ring seal - doesnt. The best fix is to make or get made a steel sleeve that presses into the case and give sthe intermediate shaft a new harder surface to seal against. Search on user name Ancient Mariner he has some great pics of rebuilding an LT230.

    The other leak location are output seals.

    Where is the oil leaking from?

    Possibly a 1.003 ratio which you need to drop the intermediate gear to remove the imput gear
