Mine does the same. Pretty sure it's standard. Flashes the whole time when a trailer (with non led lights) is connected.
I'm sure I've seen something like this mentioned on here before, but I searched & couldn't find it?
When using my indicators, my trailer light dash light flashes for the first flash of the indicators.
I'm not towing a trailer but I have the LR towkit/wiring etc fitted by Dealer.
Anybody else seen this?
Pickles.

Yes the first flash is normal. When a trailer is attached it flashes all the time, and if you fit a bullbar with indicators it will flash all the time as well unless you fit led bulbs to the bullbar.
I have no bull bar, but I have a hayman reese tow bar fitted. My trailer light always flickers for the first flash of the indicator, when no trailer is connected.
To be more technically correct, the dash indication will flash once only if you only have the standard indicators fitted. If you add any other indicators, whether that be additional front ones fitted to a bullbar, or additional rear ones on a trailer or swing-away spare tyre mount system or anything else, where the additional indicators are not LED ones, then the dash indication lamp will flash continuously when the indicators are on.
If your dash light is "flickering" rather than "flashing", I'd suggest there is an issue with the connection of a bulb in the holder or with the tow bar electrical connections (most likely).
