With the headlights off the indicator works as normal.

Hey all,
I have been having a bit of trouble with my front LHS headlight, indicator and Parker.
The headlight is very dim and the Parker and indicator are both on and dull with the headlight.
When the indicator is on the Parker dulls and brightens but not the indicator. It also flashes faster than normal.
Also when the headlights are on the wiper continuously runs, the fuse has been removed to stop it.
I assume it is an earthing problem, so where can I find the earth for the front LHS lights. It is in my 1998 defender (300tdi).
There are no obvious earths on the wing and the wires head back up to the firewall but it's difficult to follow them.
Could someone send me a wiring diagram of that year defender? I am not at home so don't have access to RAVE. And the other diagrams I have show earths on the wing.
Cheers

I can link the schematic to you but it's not much use on it's own as it doesn't list locations.

If you look through the schematic you'll see that basically everything earths on the bulkhead at C556, here:
But as your problem is with only a subset of the earths, the problem is probably earlier on. The schematic points to all LH front lights earthing through pin 16 of connector C287. That is here:
Hopefully that's your problem!
If you have no luck with those points and your away I'd think about adding an earth wire direct to the headlamps earth wire.
As a temporary measure it may get you home so you can spend more time on it.

SupporterI had similar problem with my 130 big cab tdi anyway worked out everything seemed to getting most of their earth from the fan control earth wire (the top black wire at the back of the control switch) so I spliced into that wire just behind the connector with a wire that I ran back to the earth point on the firewall (engine side) all is well now lights are brighter, wipers are faster, fans faster, blinkers blink properly and individually, before the other side would have a dull blink as well

I had the same problem and Tim (Drivesafe) told me to fit a second earth to the relay and the lights have been excellent since. Pat
Thanks for the replies
I haven't had much luck with the earth points so I have added an earth wire to the headlight earth and it has temporarily fixed it. Will keep searching for something.
