I lost the original aerial in my old Puma offroading, so I replaced it with an aerial with a spring base. From memory I had to take out the inner guard and although it was a bit fiddly, it wasn't too hard to do.

So I was at the shopping centre earlier and upon returning to my 'fender I found someone had snapped my AM/FM aerial.
It doesn't look like there's any easy way to go about replacing it without removing the inner mudguard. Does anyone have any tips?
Cheers,
James

What about an on-glass antenna tape? I put one on my old Hillman Hunter many years ago. They work (the P38A has them "painted" onto the rear windows).

SupporterI did my aerial a while ago and had no problem getting the aerial in and out with out removing the guard. the hardest part is replacing the aerial lead which I used a piece of tie wire taped onto the lead to help pull it through the dash and get it to the back of the radio.

I don't recall removing the inner guard, but it was a fiddly job. From memory you have to remove the collar and there's a screw towards the bottom that has to come out before you can remove the aerial.
I replaced mine with an aerial from MobileOne with a spring base. different year model have different plugs on the cable, so check the back of the radio before you order to make sure you get the right one. Again from memory, some of the Land Rover branded radios (2007-2011 I think...) have a European style socket and come with an adapter so if you accidentally get the wrong plug, examine the original cable before panicking. The adapter is a right-angle adapter.
I tied a bit of string to the old plug before pulling it through the firewall, which made it easy to pull the new cable through.
I purchased a replacement am/fm aerial from here...

So wanted to replace my aerial in my puma as my reception on FM in Brisvagus with the std unit was pretty poor.
Ordered and received an aerial from Mobile One
Found this thread, needed some guidance on getting the old one out.
Thought I'd write up my efforts.
So you don't need to touch the inner guard the unit unscrews at the top like all the others but there is a pretty strong clip at the base that takes a fair old hit to get out. Take the blanking plate off the top of the guard to get to the base. Photo of the base of the aerial
In answer to sort of a question above , the plug on the back of the stereo looks like this . 110 MY13
And the cable going thru the firewall is shown on the upper right of the oval grommet behind the expansion tank.
I fitted up the new base, it wobbled and distorted the guard a bit and the "teeth" were on the edges of the existing hole in the guard, so I made up a plate to support the base and stop the teeth denting the guard.
I might have to review this as I think the ground plane connection is not quite right.
So plugged the "aerial" into the radio, was a little disappointed as the reception was only a little bit better than the OEM unit.
Then I realized the aerial was sitting on the guard and the reception was just from the base.
Has anybody fitted a power aerial to a Defender. If so,from who and what part number.I fitted one to a Monaro years ago and all that was needed was a stereo with a blue lead hanging loose, this was the power source for the aerial. Anybody know if the Puma Defender has this facility on their stereo.I contacted a couple of suppliers and they can't say what will or won't fit.
No big blue lead hanging out the back of MY MY13 stereo. Don't even recall any spare sockets on the back. I fitted one to a Gemini back in the early nineties and we went off the aux/ignition power.
