    What! No airbags

Girlfriend doesn't like the new defender as its too high to get into, theres no grab handle above the passenger sides door. I guess its a bit of "mans" car, once she is out in the bush I hope she will change her mind.

Today on a short cruise, she asked me, "How many airbags does this have?".
I said, "none". She didn't believe me. I had to insist that there were none.
She was sort of shocked, and like most women do, for the next 6 hours it was on her mind. After a lunch break, I saw she was hesitant to get back in, and she gave me the evil eye when I took the nephews for a spin.

    I finally said to her.

"Well, if my car and your car collided, guess which car I'd rather be in". It seemed to shut her up. But, Im sure its still on her mind.

Anyone got any other excuses or reasoning I could use?

The other car IS your airbag. :-)

And if it's bigger than a car or light truck, then airbags won't save you anyway.....

When I met the love of my life she was driving the blue thing parked in front.
Much preferred to drive it over her own ****box Ford.

Unfortunately she had to give it back to the ****** BIL.

She did struggle to get into the Tdi when wearing a tight skirt though......

[edit] Oh, and she's an ED nurse in a country hospital, but the lack of air bags has never fazed her.

No grab handle above passenger door is a serious oversight agreed 😳 ...it can be remedied by relocating a redundant one from the rear (of a 110).

No airbags is a mystery to me, landcruiser 70 series has had them for years now. ...I would simply argue that there are many other risks in life where no airbags are present 😎

Character, design classic, heavy duty, capability, etc out weigh airbags and car-like softness any day

    Enjoy!!

Supposedly requires a major redesign/repalcement of the bulkhead/firewall, so just not cost effective.

What's wrong with the grab handle on the dash on the passengers side? I'm 5"1 and don't have a problem.

As for no airbags - who cares. Your visibility is not obstructed by ridiculously large pillars which cause blind spots therefore the car is safer.

Having only been an owner of a defer for a while i can say its not the sort of car you jump in stick it in d, drive and get out. Its a drivers car not just transport. Appreciation increases your awareness. I think im a better driver in the defer.
