    Rear Reversing LED

Almost spontaneous bought a Korr led spot light today as a combo reversing and a light up the camp light.
Then I thought. Why not a strip light or LED bar (low wattage).

    Whats your guys preferences?

Mounting options? Seems light an LED bar would sit nicely above the door, possibly with a switch override from the outside!

Are there any BAR's that are dimming? Wouldnt it be cool to be able to dim or brighten it at will?

My Headlamp (the type you stick on your head), has a dimming feature. I want that for the rear.
Does it exist? Can you make one?

I'm not sure about the legalities of a spot lamp as a reversing light.

Having said that, I have an LED spot (on a light pole on my swing away wheel carrier) connected to my reversing switch via a relay. It has an external switch for turning it on at the camp site. There is a switch inside the Rangie so that it can't be switched on by casual passers by.

I have a Korr strip light under the upper tailgate that comes on with the interior lights. It's great for illuminating the lower tailgate which is my table when camped.

I have a piece of stick on strip LED light that comes with a dimmer. You could use somethign like that - it was pretty cheap off ebay. One would think that if they are making strip light and headlamps with dim function surely there is a worklight/camplight out there...

I'm going to experiment with using a 12V -> 5V powersupply which I can switch to (engage or disengage) to dim the LED reversing light replacement (yet to go in).

Here's the converter which I bought 15W 12V TO 5V 3A DC Voltage Regulator Converter Module CAR Power Supply OK | eBay

No idea if the LED I bought will like being dimmed, but I guess we'll see.

I was instructed when buying some bits from MudStuff to get one of these...
Labcraft Astro LL2 LED Exterior Lamp - Exterior Lighting - Electrical - Products

The switch is under the numberplate light extension housing so accessed from outside.
It's not as focused as a work light so it's quite suitable as a camp light.
Ground cover is similar to the reverse lights for distance.
We have enough light to see in the fridge or in the rear Outback draw if open.
With the defender parked 2 meters away there is sufficient light to do the basic kitchen duties.
It's often left on at camps so we can find our way home from the camp fire and flick the switch as I go to bed.
    Cheers, Kyle

I just have a pair of 10w LEDs on the back of mine, mounted below the roof line. They work very well and can be operated from the driver's seat or from the rear of the car. Fantastic for reversing (if nobody around) and camping

The Labcraft LL2 mentioned by alien looks good and might be a good option if it has appropriate light output for you. Photodude also has a good light setup on the back of his car which is a Labcraft S17 or S18.

I just went through same thing with trying to find worklamps and such or even the massively over priced land rover led reverse lamps but found a set of little lights that impressed a few ppl now.

Ended up fitting Aurora mini LED rock lights to my rear cross member all I can say is for a little light they put out a heap of light on par with led work light we have on our work utes. They come in all colours if thats your thing but I just went white light so I can see.

I'm doing this from my mobile so dont know how to post pics but quick google or ebay search will bring them up I got a pare off ebay for $80 hugely recommended for any deefa i can now reverse off road with out driving by brail.

    Cheers Brian

They look neat. Whats in the middle, reverse camera?
Also, what is the metal stuff around your windows used for? And where did you get it?

Thanks. There's a reversing camera mounted on the washer nozzle, but it's an unfinished project...

I'm not sure about the metal stuff you mentioned... The brown on the glass is the factory heating element for the rear window and the black around the window is just the standard rubber seal - or do you mean the ladder and gas bottle holder?
