Defenders for newbies

I have a 2015 build Defender
1. Yes it has an EKA , but they had to get it from the UK and took six weeks
2. You have DSC, disable it in sand
3. Your hand brake is on the drive shaft, be very careful changing wheels, esp rear, 1st low, locked CDL, i bought a second wheel chock from Clark Rubber, factory one is rubbish, read the manual carefully.
4. Buy 5 new wheel nuts, throw the locking nuts away. Apparently the adapter will fail at a bad time.

Thanks for this tip, we've not had much luck getting ours, admittedly I haven't tried too hard, dealer always willing but never delivering...

Without them it will only be a matter of time before you catch the back of your trousers and rip a very large hole in them. If you replace the catch with these they won't catch. If you are skinny this probably won't apply. If you are not they will pay for themselves very quickly.

My trousers used to catch frequently & tear on the lock of my 1985 110, but the haven't caught on the Pumas...

To explain: Defenders from 2007 onwards were developed whilst Land Rover was owned by Ford and the have an engine that is known by name of "Puma", which was also used in the Ford Transit van, although I believe the version in the Defenders have some modifications to permit operation on steep terrain.

Thus you will often hear defenders from 2007 onwards referred to as Pumas - something that drives some of the more pedantic frequenters of this forum nuts... :angel:

Was in the same boat - Had been asking the dealer and getting nowhere. In frustration after asking at each service in the past 12mths - I went looking for a contact in the UK service organization. Got the email address I supplied, and got a response from them just in the past few weeks.

Still don't have my EKA.

Don't be expecting a fast response to any email you send to the JLR global service people. Took weeks and several "bump" chaser emails to finally get a single acknowledgement response. JLR global then got in touch with the local dealer, who subsequently contacted me. Now have exchanged a few emails with the local (Malaysian) dealers service manager.

First the local lot said they had to get to the UK global people and get back to me (which in a year they never did). Then after I went after the global lot directly - they said the EKA had to come from the local dealer as they have no records of it. The local dealer has since been back and forth with me and global....And..... Now he needs my vehicle to get the serial number from the security module and send that to global - so they can match it up with manufacturing records to get my EKA

I have an inkling the story is a long way from over...

It's more a fact than a snipe :D The point being that it isn't a Land Rover specific quirk but one shared with a LOT of Fords that are buzzing around out there.

I like Pumas, Ford bits and all, even thinking about buying a slightly used 90, especially now that I know how to get the fuel cap off.
