    110 county ignition switch issue

After finally getting my wiring fixed after an accessory wire melt down (past owner doggy install) we took the girl for our first drive in six months. It has been starting well during the rebuild when I turned her over, but now I have found that after warming up, when I try to start again the engine will turn over but wont start until I release the key from the starter position.

I have just replaced the ignition switch completely when the last one fell appart when I was doing the electrics. So I am not sure wht it could be?

    Anyone got any ideas?

You may have your accessory and ignition wires swapped. Accessory drops out when starting.

    Thanks Bushrover,

I will check that out when I get home tonight. This would also explain the behavior. I think that is highly likely as I did hook it up with my best memory of the wires while the whole dash was apart. And the old switch fell apart inside the dash when I was dismantling.

Any one got any other ideas? Checked the wires and all hooked up fine.

    Hi,
Sounds like the starter is getting (taking) all the available power from a low battery, and the coil is starving until you release the starter. Could that be the problem?

Or poor connection to the coil?

Sounds feasible. I will have a look. The battery has been down as I have been working on the electrics (with the engine off) but I think it should be fine. So will check the coil connections.

Previously has been great at starting when you first do, but harder after it is warm.

Try a hot wire directly to the +ve on the coil. If it starts it is your ignition circuit
Don't forget to remove the hot wire afterwards!
